Monitoring Instruments

The USGS maintains a variety of fault and volcano monitoring instruments around the western United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. To learn more about a particular type of instrument, follow the links below:

The data from all instrumetns are transmitted to the USGS Western Region Headquarters in Menlo Park using satellite telemetry.
